The K552 is an exposed steel plate with the switches sitting proud of it and a thin plastic tray underneath — the cheapest way to build a mechanical keyboard that still counts as one. Acoustically that means brightness and ring: the steel plate is stiff and reflective, there is nothing absorbing anything, and the case rattles.
The Outemu Blue version is loud and sharp with an obvious high-frequency edge, and a noticeable spring ping on harder presses. The Outemu Red is smoother but scratchier than a Gateron or Cherry equivalent, because the switches are not lubed and the tolerances are looser.
It sounds cheap, and it is cheap, and there is something to be said for a keyboard that is honest about it. Most people who own one bought it to find out whether they liked mechanical keyboards at all, and it answers that question perfectly well.

Outemu switches on an exposed steel plate in a thin plastic case with no fill. Outemu is the budget clone brand that most sub-$50 boards run on; the switches follow Cherry's colour conventions but with looser tolerances, no factory lubrication, and more variance between individual units. Some K552 revisions are hot-swappable with Outemu-specific sockets, which are not the same as standard MX sockets.

Why does the Redragon K552 sound scratchy?
Unlubricated Outemu switches with loose tolerances. Without factory lubrication the stem scrapes against the housing on every press, and looser moulding means each switch does it slightly differently. It is the most audible difference between budget clone switches and Cherry or Gateron, and it is what people mean when they say a keyboard sounds cheap.
Can I make a Redragon K552 sound better?
Meaningfully, yes. Lubricating the stabilisers removes the rattle on the wide keys. Foam under the PCB kills the hollow ring. PBT keycaps lower the pitch. Lubricating the switches themselves is the biggest improvement of all and also the most tedious. Whether it is worth several hours on a keyboard this cheap is a fair question.
Is a Redragon K552 a real mechanical keyboard?
Yes — Outemu switches are genuine mechanical switches with a stem, a spring, and a metal contact leaf, not rubber domes. They are budget clones of the Cherry design rather than counterfeits, and they work the way the colour names suggest. What separates them from Cherry or Gateron is tolerance, consistency, and the absence of factory lubrication, all of which you can hear.
