A magnetic switch has nothing inside it to make a noise. There is no click collar, no tactile bump, and no contact leaf — a sensor reads the position of a magnet in the stem and the firmware decides when the key has registered. That makes it the purest linear available, and the Rapid sounds like it: smooth, even, and free of any attack.
Logitech has damped this board reasonably well for a tournament keyboard, so it comes out lower and fuller than the exposed-plate gaming boards of a few years ago. It is not a deep-sounding keyboard, but it is a controlled one.
As with every magnetic board, the practical sound depends on the actuation you set. Configured shallow with rapid trigger for competitive play, many owners stop bottoming out and the keyboard becomes markedly quieter than the specification would suggest.

What is rapid trigger?
A feature that resets a key the moment it starts travelling back up, rather than waiting for it to pass a fixed reset point. It only works on switches that report position continuously, which means magnetic or analog optical. For repeated presses in games it is a genuine advantage; for typing it makes no difference, and it has no direct effect on how the board sounds.
Do magnetic keyboards sound different from mechanical ones?
Yes, consistently. With no click mechanism, no tactile leaf, and no metal contact, the only sounds are the stem hitting the bottom and returning to the top. That produces an unusually even, attack-free sound that people describe as smooth or, less charitably, as characterless. Every Hall-effect board shares this regardless of brand.
Can I use normal switches in a magnetic keyboard?
No. The PCB has no electrical contacts to close — it reads the magnetic field from a magnet in the switch stem. Only magnetic switches work, and often only the specific ones the manufacturer supports. This is the main cost of moving to Hall effect: you gain adjustable actuation and lose the entire aftermarket switch ecosystem.
