How it

Akko's recent boards are gasket-mounted with a proper foam stack at prices where competitors are still shipping hollow tray-mounted shells, and it shows immediately. The linear versions with Jelly or Cream switches produce a full, low clack with very little ring — the sound people associate with boards two or three times the money.
Akko also makes its own switches and factory-lubes most of them, which removes the scratchiness that usually gives a budget board away. The Cream Blue clicky version is the outlier: it is bright and sharp like any clicky switch, and the foam stack matters much less when the switch itself is the loudest thing in the room.
The honest caveat is consistency. Akko revises its boards and switches often, and two units bought a year apart can differ more than you would expect from a single brand.

The linear options are what the brand is actually known for, and they are where the foam stack and factory lubing pay off. The Cream Blue clicky is a good clicky switch, but it makes the careful case tuning largely irrelevant — if you want the click, almost any board will deliver it.

Are Akko keyboards good for the money?
On sound, unusually so. Gasket mounting, a multi-layer foam stack, doubleshot PBT keycaps, and factory-lubed switches are all things that normally appear a tier or two higher, and Akko ships them as standard. The trade-offs are elsewhere: software is weaker than Keychron's VIA support, and build consistency varies more between revisions.
What do Akko switches sound like?
The linears — Jelly and Cream — are smooth and full, helped by factory lubing that removes most of the scratch. In Akko's foamed gasket-mounted cases they produce a low clack rather than a thin knock. The Cream Blue is a conventional clicky switch: bright, sharp, and loud, and much less affected by the case around it.
Do Akko keyboards need modding?
Less than almost anything else at the price. The foam, the gasket mount, the PBT keycaps, and the lubed switches are the four things people normally add to a budget board, and Akko does all four at the factory. The usual remaining complaint is the stabilisers, which are worth lubricating on any board in this range.
