The One 3 is the board to reach for if you want to hear a Cherry switch rather than a case. Ducky added foam to this generation — the One 2 had none — which removes the hollow ring without going so far that the switch gets buried. What comes out is close to a neutral presentation of Cherry MX.
That makes the four-way comparison unusually clean. The Blue is sharply clicky with a second, thinner click on release. The Brown is the same shape with the click removed, landing as a rounded knock. The Red is smoother and lower again. The Black is the Red with a heavier spring, and it is the deepest and most deliberate of the four.
Ducky's thick doubleshot PBT keycaps matter here too. PBT is denser than ABS and lowers the pitch of every keystroke, which is part of why a One 3 sounds fuller than a board with the same switches and thinner caps.

Genuine Cherry MX switches on a plate in a plastic case, with foam added in the One 3 generation to damp the cavity that made the One 2 ring. Thick doubleshot PBT keycaps are standard across the range and contribute directly to the lower pitch. Hot-swap versions exist alongside the soldered ones, and the case is available in a range of sizes from 60% to full.

What is the difference between the Ducky One 2 and One 3?
Foam, mainly, and it is audible. The One 2 was an unfilled case that rang noticeably; the One 3 adds internal damping that removes most of it, leaving a fuller and less hollow sound. The One 3 also added hot-swap options and a slightly revised case. If you have heard a One 2 Mini and disliked the hollowness, the One 3 is a different keyboard.
Does the Ducky One 3 use real Cherry switches?
Yes. Ducky ships genuine Cherry MX across the line rather than clones, which is why the Cherry recordings on this site line up closely with it. The differences you will hear between this page and your own board come from the case, the plate, and the keycaps — not from the switch being something else.
Which Ducky One 3 switch should I pick?
Brown if you are unsure — it gives feedback without the click and annoys nobody. Red or Black if you type for long stretches and want the smoothest, lowest sound, with Black being the heavier and deeper of the two.
