Topre · sound

Topre
keyboard sounds.

Topre is not a mechanical switch at all: it is a rubber dome over a conical spring, read electrocapacitively. That mechanism produces the muted, low thock the brand is famous for, and it is unlike anything Cherry has ever made. Realforce is Topre’s own line; the HHKB is built by PFU under licence, and both are collected here because they share the switch.

Each button plays a short phrase typed on that switch family. Where a keyboard is sold in more than one switch, every option gets its own button — those versions genuinely do not sound alike.

Topre Realforce R3 and R2

Electrocapacitive rubber domes over conical springs. The famous Topre thock is muted, deep, and completely unlike a Cherry switch.

HHKB Professional Hybrid Type-S

Topre with silencing added. The Type-S dampening removes the top and bottom knock and leaves a very soft, low press.

These are recordings of the switch family, not of each exact keyboard. Switch options move between model years, regions, and retailers — check the listing before buying on the strength of a match here.

This page only makes sound while the tab is focused. TypeLouder plays the same recordings system-wide — in your editor, your terminal, your email — on whatever keyboard you already own, through your speakers or privately through headphones.

It never reads or stores your keystrokes, and it has no network access at all.
