Razer's colour scheme is unusually honest: Green is clicky, Orange is tactile, Yellow is linear, and each behaves the way its family should. The Green is the loud one — a sharp, high click with a second, lighter click on release, and it is the switch that gave Razer keyboards their reputation for being audible from the next room.
The Orange drops the click and leaves a rounded tactile knock, quieter but not quiet. The Yellow is the outlier: Razer builds a sound dampener into the switch itself, so it lands softer than a plain linear would and has almost no return noise. It is the version to buy if anyone else has to listen to you.
The V4 Pro's case is aluminium-topped with a fair amount of internal padding, and recent BlackWidows sound noticeably less hollow than the models from five or six years ago that built the brand's noisy reputation.

Razer's own mechanical switches — Green clicky, Orange tactile, Yellow dampened linear — on an aluminium top plate, with the V4 Pro adding a command dial, a wrist rest, and underglow. The switches are soldered on most models rather than hot-swappable, so the version you buy is the version you keep. Doubleshot ABS keycaps are standard.

Which Razer switch is quietest?
The Yellow, and by a clear margin. It is a linear switch with a sound dampener built into the housing that absorbs both the bottom-out and the return, so it is quieter than an undampened linear like a Cherry MX Red. The Orange is next, and the Green is far louder than either — it clicks on the way down and again on the way up.
Are Razer keyboards loud?
The Green versions are, and that reputation has stuck to the whole brand. The Orange and especially the Yellow are perfectly reasonable in a shared room, and recent BlackWidows have far more internal damping than the models that earned the reputation. If you want a Razer board that nobody complains about, buy the Yellow.
Can I change the switches in a BlackWidow?
Generally not — most BlackWidow models have soldered switches. The BlackWidow V4 75% is the exception and is hot-swappable. On everything else, choose carefully at purchase, because the switch is the single biggest factor in how the board sounds and there is no changing it afterwards.
