The Vulcan is the most exposed design in this list. The keycaps are unusually low and short, the switch bodies are fully visible, and the top plate is bare anodised aluminium with nothing covering any of it. There is almost nothing between the mechanism and the room.
That gives it a sharp, immediate, quite high-pitched sound. Titan switches are optical with shortened travel, so each press is quick and there is very little low end. The tactile version has a small, crisp bump; the linear version is smooth and glassy.
It is a distinctive sound rather than a refined one, and it is completely inseparable from the industrial design — this keyboard looks the way it sounds, which was clearly the intention.

Why is the Roccat Vulcan so bright-sounding?
Nothing is covering anything. The keycaps are low and short, the switch bodies are fully exposed above a bare aluminium plate, and there is no damping anywhere. Every part of the design that makes the RGB look good also removes something that would otherwise absorb sound.
What are Titan switches?
Roccat's own optical switches, with shortened travel compared with a standard mechanical switch. Optical actuation means the press is detected by breaking a light beam rather than closing a contact, so there is no contact leaf noise. Combined with the short travel, that makes them quick and clean but without much body.
Can I change the switches in a Vulcan?
Generally not. Titan switches are optical, so they need a matching optical PCB, and most Vulcan models are not hot-swappable. The keycaps are also a non-standard low profile, which limits that route too. It is a board to buy for what it already is rather than as a platform.
