Keychron K2
サウンドテスト。

The board that put a Mac-layout mechanical keyboard on more desks than anything else. Press play on each switch option below — the version you order changes the sound completely.

What a Keychron K2
sounds like.

Each button plays a short phrase typed on that switch family, so you are comparing rhythm rather than a single tap. Play two in a row — that is where the difference actually shows up.

These are recordings of the switch family, not of this exact keyboard. That is the honest way to do it — the family is what dominates the sound, and switch options move between model years and regions. Check the listing before buying on the strength of a match here.

いま聞こえているもの

How it
どう鳴るのか。

The K2's defining acoustic feature is its case. It is a compact plastic shell — aluminium-framed on some versions — with a large unfilled cavity underneath the PCB, and that cavity resonates. The result is a slightly hollow, plasticky quality that sits behind whichever switch you chose, and it is the single most common complaint about how the board sounds.

On top of that, the switch does what you would expect. The Blue is sharp and busy and audible from the next room. The Brown or Banana version lands as a rounded knock with no click. The Red is the smoothest and lowest of the three, and it is the one that shows the case resonance most clearly, because there is no click covering it up.

None of this makes it a bad keyboard — it is a genuinely good first mechanical board. But it is worth knowing that the hollowness is the case, not the switch, so swapping switches will not fix it. Foam or tape inside will, and that is why the K2 is the most modded keyboard on the internet.

その音になる理由

The build
仕組み。

A 75% layout on a tray-mounted PCB in a plastic case, with an optional aluminium frame that changes the look far more than the sound. Tray mounting screws the PCB directly to posts in the bottom shell, which is the stiffest and cheapest way to build a keyboard and gives none of the softness a gasket mount does. Recent revisions ship with some foam; earlier ones shipped with none, which is why two people describing the same K2 often disagree.

Which one to pick

Choosing
the switch.

Keychron has sold the K2 with Gateron, its own Keychron switches, and more recently Gateron Jupiter Reds, Browns, and Bananas, depending on the version and the year. The names shift; the families do not. Pick the family from the buttons above and then check which switch the listing you are looking at actually ships — that is the part that changes.

よくある疑問

Keychron K2
についての疑問。

Why does my Keychron K2 sound hollow?

The empty cavity between the PCB and the bottom of the case. Sound reflects around inside it and comes back out as a hollow ring behind every keystroke. It is a property of the case, not the switch, so changing switches will not help. Adding foam or the well-known tape mod to the underside of the PCB is what actually fixes it, and it is the reason the K2 has such a large modding community.

Which Keychron K2 switch is quietest?

The Red, or any linear option. It removes both the click and the tactile bump, leaving only the bottom-out. The Brown or Banana is next, and the Blue is far louder than either — it fires a click on the way down and again on the way up. If you need genuine quiet rather than just less noise, look at a silent linear rather than any of the three standard options.

Is the Keychron K2 good for a Mac?

It is the reason most people buy one. The keycaps ship with Mac legends, the modifier layout matches macOS out of the box rather than requiring you to remap Command and Option, and there is a physical switch for Mac and Windows mode. That combination is still rare, and it is why the K2 turns up in Mac keyboard recommendations far more often than boards that sound better.
