How it
どう鳴るのか。
The K8 sounds like a longer K2, and that is not a throwaway comparison — the extra length changes it slightly. A bigger case means a bigger internal cavity, so the hollow resonance the K-series is known for is a touch deeper and more obvious here than on the compact K2, particularly under the function row and the arrow cluster where the shell is least supported.
The switch choice drives everything else. Blue is loud and clicky, Brown is a rounded tactile knock, Red is the lowest and smoothest. The K8 Pro added QMK support and, on later revisions, some internal foam, which takes a noticeable amount of the ring out compared with the original.
Practically, a tenkeyless board is also just further from your ear on the right-hand side, which does more for perceived volume than people expect when moving up from a compact layout.

The build

A tenkeyless tray-mounted board in a plastic case, offered with or without an aluminium frame. The K8 Pro moved the line to QMK and VIA firmware and, in later batches, added a foam layer between the PCB and the case. Everything structural is shared with the rest of the K-series: tray mounting, a steel plate on most versions, and doubleshot or dye-sublimated keycaps depending on the variant.

The switch families here behave exactly as they do on the K2, so if you have heard one you have effectively heard the other. What is worth deciding separately is the Pro versus the standard K8: the Pro's foam and firmware are the real difference between them, and neither shows up in the switch you pick.

What is the difference between the Keychron K8 and K8 Pro?
The Pro runs QMK and VIA firmware, so every key can be remapped and macros live on the board rather than in software. Later Pro batches also ship with internal foam, which cuts the hollow ring the standard K8 is known for. The layout, case shape, and switch options are otherwise the same.
Is the Keychron K8 quieter than the K2?
Not meaningfully — they share a case construction and switch lineup, and if anything the K8's larger internal cavity resonates slightly more. What does change is where the noise comes from: a tenkeyless board is wider, so the right-hand side of the keyboard is further from you, which some people read as quieter in practice.
Can I make a Keychron K8 sound better without replacing it?
Yes, and cheaply. Foam or the tape mod under the PCB kills most of the hollowness, which is the board's main acoustic problem. Swapping the stock ABS keycaps for thicker PBT lowers the pitch. Both are more effective than changing switches, because the switch was never the thing making it sound hollow.
